Voting Question: Separating two extremely attached horses.?
Hey everybody, This weekend a lease on one of my horses will run out and we are returning her to her owner. I know I am going to have a major problem when this happens because my other horse is incredibly attached to the little mare. To the point that, one afternoon after my sister and I had gone riding, she’d un tacked her horse and started leading it back to the paddock while I finished with mine – long story short, both horses freaked. The pony had been placed in the paddock and my sister was closing the gate when she shoved her way out and came racing back towards me and my horse. My sister re caught her and managed to get her back in as I was leading my horse down to their paddock. The pony started neighing and my horse, even though we were within a few meters of the paddock gate, started mock rearing and neighing and pulling at the rope. I was quite shocked as it was the first time he’d ever done it. They cannot be separated as they hoon around and make a racket. But this weekend one is leaving and I’m not sure what to do with the other. He is around 15hh and I’m still a bit of a novice at horse-handling – I’m worried that he will hurt himself and would like some advice on how to ease him through the separation and lower any type of risk. I realize that it probably would have been smarter to begin gradually separating them a while back – but I wasn’t made aware of when the pony was leaving and when I was – I was told to leave them be until one had to go. Any advice, tips would be very helpful. Thank you xD
